Epson are no strangers to the multifunction printer market, in fact they were one of the first to offer a multifunctional inkjet printer at an affordable price. They have continued to offers affordable multifunction printers which includes their latest model the Stylus SX405. Running costs, specific the cost of replacement printer cartridges are an important factor when it comes to inkjet printers and the SX405 is slightly different to its competitors because it uses an individual Epson ink cartridge system which makes it more economical. The cost of the Epson SX405 ink cartridges is slightly higher than most would like but there are compatible inks from third party manufactures which cost half the price of the genuine OEM inks. It’s apparent as soon as you start using the SX405 that’s it noisy which has been a problem with previous Epson printers but the overall built quality of the machine seems solid enough and it has the security of a 12 month warranty. Printing is probably the SX405’s strongest area, this is in part thanks to it class leading 5760dpi x 1440dpi print resolution which results in print output with pin sharp clarity. The SX405 also has an equality impressive A4 flat bed scanner which is capable scanning all types of documents and covert them into digital format with realistic colour tones. The photo copier which works without the need for a PC also makes use of the A4 flat bed to produce accurate reproductions of all types of documents with impressive speed. The photo copier is not best suited to large volumes however.
