If it ***** so bad, what is it that, of the 16 or so countries with higher life expectencies then the USA, almost all of them have government sponsored universal healthcare?
My mother recently won a year long battle with two forms of cancer. The cost treatment totalled over $300,000. There is no feasibile payment program for such a cost. Virtually nobody can afford the cost of health care when things go wrong, while almost everybody can afford the average cost per person. That is why insurance does and must exist.
The only two parties that should be involved in healthcare are doctors and patients. That’s it, that’s all. If a doctor is charging too much, you as the patient have the right to go to a different one. You should also be able to work out a feasible payment program with your physician/hospital to pay for his/her/their services.
I don’t know anyone from Canada, though they aren’t the only country with socialized medicine. I lived in Europe for a number of years, where a majority of the countries practice socialized medicine, and I know quite a few people that complained about their health care.
Because government will make all the rules to prevent the competition. They will make it impossible or very expensive to just compete with them. So privately run insurance company will have a lot more overhead to even start.
I’m going to take a wild guess and say that you have never lived in a country with socialized medicine. Am I right?
I thought so. Socialized medicine *****. You are always worried about whether or not you will be turned down, waiting in long lines regardless of what your condition is, and if you have some sort of terminal illness the chance that you will be seen is extremely slim. **** socialized medicine. Good luck with that “fantasy” that public healthcare will “protect us all”. Bullshit.
If healthcare should be determined in the marketplace why doesn’t someone come up with an idea to compete against the goverment’s program, a true capitalist would do that, instead of complaining about all programs throw to them by the government. You are offering a political solution not an economical one. The marketplace is there to exchange products/service.
2) That’s why the Hill Burton general hospitals were public. Just like we have public parks and schools or a public army to protect us. Then, Wall Street turned the healthcare system into a privet business where profit and shareholders became the priority and patents became and way to get rich. FDR had to straighten out Wall Street in the 30es. These Wall Street bastards need to be straightened out again. That’s why I say check out Larouches Program. He the man. google LaRouchePac
1) Under the FDR Hill-Burton Healthcare System, people were cared for and treated well. The hospitals and patent care were modeled after the WWII U.S. Army hospital system. It was very efficient. Under the Preamble of out Federal Constitution, our government has the responsible to provide for the common defense ( including sickness and disease) and protect the general welfare of the citizens.
They’ll put the fire out but they won’t finance the rebuilding of your home. Even now, hospitals are required to stabilize the patients who come into the ER but they don’t finance the “rebuilding” of the patients health–nor should they, anymore than they should pay for other necessities–food, shelter, clothing, etc.
Ron Paul can’t think clearly when it comes to abortion but he makes all the right points when it comes to the idiocy of relying on government to take care of the nation’s healthcare. Who really thinks the government is the best and most efficient way to take care of this problem?
Under the Universal Declaration on human Rights (article 22), we All have the Right to Social Security which includes a public health care system. The Hill Burton System was a Low cost (to keep Tax down) or No cost public Healthcare system. We have a public fire department to protect us from fire “right”. well, we use to have Public Healthcare to protect us all. This was the Hill Burton General Hospital system. google LaRouchePac Home
Manhattan Institute analyst David Gratzer, reviewed a Blue Cross-Blue Shield analysis of the 2003 Census Bureau data, 49% of the uninsured earned more than 50,000 and could afford private coverage. Most of the remainder were eligible for Medicaid and other federal programs. The truly uninsured, who were neither eligible for entitlements nor could afford private care, numbered only 8 mil.The bottom line: in the vast majority of cases, if someone really wants coverage, he could find a way to get it.
Yes, Canada has waiting lines for some procedures and they have to prioritize and some people get left out and thats tragic, but it is nothing compared to our tragedy. 50 million with no insurance, and most of the rest with inadequate insurance for which their overcharged. As for you logic behind why we pay more, the best health care system in the world, France’s, pays half what we do per capita. As does Italy, 3rd best, and UK 13th best. We rank 37th by the way, if you were wondering.
You’re actually quite wrong. Some provinces in Canada are offer good care. The health care system in Canada is ran much like the public school system here in the states. If you live in an upper-class section, you’re going to get much better care than the lower class. An animal can get an MRI in less than 24 hours, but human has to wait up to 15 weeks in some cases. Come on, you’re telling me that GOOD care???
Yeah, a government plan that will be subsidized by the taxpayer. So, even individuals with private insurance may even want to opt for the government program. I don’t think the government should be in the business of running our nations health care, and I really don’t feel that just because someone makes more than me that they should subsidize my health care with their hard earned money.
Understand that part of the reason American’s pay more can date back to WWII and the fringe benefit of insurance. Also understand the countries like yours that choose not to add new effective drugs to their formularies cause exacerbated prices here in the U.S. Moral hazard will increase causing a big black hole that ***** more and more money. It’s important to note that the fastest growing sector in health care in countries offering socialized medicine is private insurance. Kind of funny.
The private sector works great for most things, things that are not absolute necessities, because quality and price have to be good or a person simply doesn’t buy. Thats not so much an option with health insurance, people don’t gamble with their lives. Thus, quality and cost have suffered because thats what makes a profit. And Obama is going in the exact opposite direction of Bush; he was a corporatist who wanted to privatize social security, Obama supports a program that huts corporations.
The American people & the private sector are the ones that make the economy roll, not the government! this has been the problem for years, both parties are at fault and Obama is going in the same direction as Bush. Those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it! Obama is repeating it! He bashed McCain for the health care tax hikes in the campaign, but for Obama to do health care, he will have to raise taxes on “everyone”! that is the “catch”! even his poll #s are dropping.
First, I’m not sure what you would have proposed he do about the economy, but a massive amount of spending was going to be necessary no matter what. As for not addressing the other side of the issue, thats kind of what the town hall is for, to say why he thinks he is right and the other side is not. And I disagree about “no looking back.” While, yes, he has to take responsibility from here on out, he also has to make sure that the mistakes of the past are not repeated.
Most all of those countries are socialist or communist.

No government
No insurance companies

how many people do you know from canada that always complain about their health care system?

And unlike Ed Schultz she let him talk.

Again look at Obama’s poll #s.

SupportTroops – I’m sorry but you do not know what you are talking about.
