that could be really good, but that system is in the UK as well and it works to a certain extent but obviously there are flaws. Maybe it would be good if hospital officials were elected? I dunno, but it could work.
How about a public option that will compete with the private system, like we have with the United States Postal Service, UPS, FedEx and others. They have made each other better in every way.
All I can say is that letting corporation decide how and when you’ll get treated (which *is* who decides now in the U.S.) is far worse because their isn’t even a hint of accountability.
Here, you can pay insurance premiums all your life just to have your Insurance company *drop* you to the curb the minute you attempt to use them.
Do I think it will be wine and roses, probably not. But it *will* be better than the current status-quo.
I live in the U.K. and we have public healthcare… it’s ****! Governments naturally reduce accountability in every way possible, especially modern executives! I hope the U.S is different, and they do have the best democracy in the world, but i wouldn’t expect much if I were you. It is hard for the government to run a successful national health care plan.
absolutely. $7/hr as the national basic wage is not enough to support a family or do anything.
everyone must remember that insurance companies make a profit when they deny someone service…because they don’t have to spend money on them.
ha ha ha! Ferudian slip on the replublican part
“Government in charge will suck”…let’s see.
Right now, the people in charge of our healthcare (insurance companies and HMOs) make *more* money the LESS healthcare they actually deliver.
With the Government in charge of healthcare, we can simply *vote out* anyone responsible for crappy service.
Hmmm…I guess I have to say a Government System *BY FAR* has the greatest incentive to provide the best service.
“Paying to test their medication”…you’re crazy.
“Government in charge will suck”…you conservartives need to get your stories straight.
First, you say it will be so good it will drive the poor insurance companies and sh__ty HMOs out of business, then from the other side of your mouth you say how terrible it will be.
Healthcare in this country goes to those who are rich or who are lucky enough to get insurance from their employer. *That* is disgraceful.
As of right now, some people can choose their provider and I can garantee you two things.
First, that the government health insurance will still be in cahrge of your health care and it will suck
Second, if we did have it and you had a serious problem ,you would be concerned over how long it takes to get it fixed.
It isn’t about thinking it takes long, it does take long. Their healthcare ***** and for one its cheaper because we are the one paying to test the medications.
NO! What most important is that in countries like Canada and Great Britain (and France, Germany, take your pick) ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of patients who need to see a doctor do (even if it isn’t as fast as they *think* it should be).
Can we say the same about the United States?
Insurance Companies are in charge of our healthcare, not doctors and certainly not patients.
Please lobby your Representatives to support H.R. 676.
It’s time Democrats *AND* Republicans (despite Republican grandstanding to the contrary) stop being so damn concerned with the welfare of companies like Blue Cross/Kaiser/etc. and start being concerned with what’s best for their constituents.
For all the bragging/bitching, would you like to know how many patients in Canada see a doctor if needed? ONE HUNDRED PERCENT.
Can we say the same here?
Disgraceful.
I don’t care about healthcare in China, regardless of “how it is”, EMPLOYERS in China don’t have to pay for it out of pocket.
That is precisely why companies overseas (as the United States is the -only- First World nation without a National Healthcare System) are able to undercut U.S. Companies. It is one of the reasons why G.M. faces such stiff competition from companies like Toyota.
Here’s what is never discussed and its the most important part and that’s the quality of the health insurance. The more the government is control, the less money will be used for better quality and the more it will be used for whatever government run operation there is. Even with a public option, that will diminish the portion of the doctors able to run their own business and it will continually get worse until the government is in control of all of it. Obama knows to take over a step at a time.
Yaaaaawn! this guy bores the#$ out of me.
Do you really want to talk about health care in China? I’ve spent enough time there to know not to compare it to the US. Unless, you compare it to ca. 1900 US health care. Seriously, they’re that far behind.
GOOD! As a business owner, my question is why in the hell is it *my* responsibility to provide insurance for my employees just so THEIR (and my, for that matter) GOVERNMENT doesn’t kick them to the curb and say “tough luck, poor person”.
I have friends in Canada who *cannot* believe that as a business owner, I’m responsible for health care just so I won’t lose my employees to early deaths!
Just so you know, companies in CHINA don’t have these problems. So you might think a little…
I disagree. Senator Grassley is a good person and he has done a wonderful job to represent our district. He earned a lot respects in Iowa. I do not get ****** part at all. He helped a lot of not white people more than any other senators and house representatives.
The conservatives talk as if all the uninsured people will make a run on health care system and brake the bank, a large percentage of Americans uninsured and insured are not sick and dont use the health care system but they pay and pay into private insurance companies. I feel we should have a public option that will give people a tax refunds if they dont use the system.

Health insurance is the number one reason US businesses are uncompetitive in the world market. Conservatives think just because your employer pays your health insurance its free, wrong. The cost of insurance is passed on to you and me with every thing we buy, $3000 dollars on a new car just to cover worker health insurance, and soon they off shore jobs to get around health care for workers and good bye job and insurance. So we need to look at the total cost of the insurance industry
Grassley is a jerk, and a joke in Iowa. I will exercise my choice to vote against him in his next election, if he doesn’t quit before that. I can’t stand this man and have called his office many times to complain of his non-support of the constituency that put him in office to represent them. He could care less. He is stuck in his old, ****** ways and he needs to go.
Good point lisabob22. Wages have stayed flat.. point in case. Why is it more difficult TODAY to afford a small family, than when innovation & advances in production were non-existent?
The generations before us didn’t have “greater” means and wages, yet weren’t in major jeopardy of losing homes, cars, health care, and children’s college education…. something sounds fishy
God universal health care stupid no company will continue to offer insurance to their employees if the government will give their employees insurance.
The USA has the … “BEST SPECIALISTS” … but our Health Care System stinks and is ranked as the Low 37th on a World Scale !! It’s like saying “THE USA WON THE MOST GOLD MEDALS IN THE OLYMPICS … SO THE ENTIRE AMERICAN POPULATION IS MADE OF TOP ATHLETES !! When in reality we have an overweight & sick …(cancer~heart diseases~diabetic)… population, compared to other nations. Don’t buy into the Right-Wing propaganda. Basically a vote for the Republican Party is a vote for Feudalism since they have been anti-science and pro-forcing people to be dependent on their employers for good, affordable health insurance. If you vote Democrat, you have the Renaissance: pro-science and medical research irrespective of provincial religious beliefs and pro-helping all people have good, affordable healthcare, period.
